2014 Season UNDERWAY

Many members have already paid their 2014 subscriptions which became due on the 1st of January. If you haven't yet dealt with yours let me remind you that the month period of grace which allows a £20 discount has only a week to run. After the 31st of January you will owe the full amount. Details of the how much you owe can be found by clicking on the Membership Tab above.

The social season has got underway with  a Burns Night Supper. Details of the Snowball Event have been emailed to all members and a Sunday Lunch is advertised on the website. If you are not receiving the emails please inform the office of a working email address so that we can contact you. If you are getting emails addressed to the wrong person or multiple emails let us know and we should be able to ensure our messages go to the correct person.

OLLY Cotterell continues to perform well in the Clipper race retaining the overall lead. The whole fleet was seriously becalmed off Papua New Guinea on course for Singapore and Olly was 20nm in the lead when he found he had time to answer some questions from the Bridlington Free Press reporter. Hopefully there will be an article about his adventure in a future edition.

YOD Article

The magazine Yachting World has recently been publishing a series of articles about local One-Design fleets (as opposed to National One Design fleets) based at various locations around the country.  These articles have been appearing under the title 'Local Boats'.

I thought you may like to know that in the next (October) issue, due out around the middle of September, the 'Local Boats' article in Yachting World is featuring the Yorkshire One Design. Written by Matthew Sheahan, the article is illustrated with photographs by Amy Saltonstall.

Message from the crew of Yacht Spica

Unfortunately we were unable to be with you for the Regatta Prize Giving last Friday because the weather forecast for returning to the Humber was so favourable we just had to depart first thing on Friday morning.

We would like to thank you and the members of RYYC for allowing us to join your regatta and for making us so welcome to your Club. We had a simply fantastic week with great sailing each day, lovely weather and joined in many of the social events that were so well organised. Having run Regatta’s myself on numerous occasions I fully appreciate the effort made by your members in setting up and making it all happen, it is a massive undertaking and we really appreciated all the hard work put in by your members, so please convey our thanks and appreciation for all their hard work.

We had a good passage back, with a steady wind on the starboard quarter all the way to Easington when the westerly wind ran against the tide making it a bit lumpy as we sailed out to Spurn Light and then into the Humber. We made Grimsby for 1730 hrs where we stayed overnight and then departed there at 0430 hrs on Saturday morning to arrive at Brough for 0900 hrs.

We will pass the word around at HYC about how much we enjoyed your regatta and will try and persuade some more boats from HYC to visit next year.

Best wishes and thanks for making us so welcome.

Regards

Bernard

New Season at RYYC

With the start of the 2013 season and the publishing of a Spring Newsletter by Romayne Bayes
I thought it would be a good idea to bring members attention to a blog the club started at the beginning of last season.
By posting a link to this on the RYYC facebook site.
Like all blogs it needs input from people who have things to share as well as followers who pass on the link to other interested parties.

Posting to the blog.
Anyone entrusted with the password could write post direct to the blog. Just like writing an email. Embedding links, Photos, Videos is simple and you can also click a spellchecker if you don't trust your own spelling skills. Or you could just email text or other media you want including to someone who has access to the blog and let them do it for you.

Editors
On this topic at the moment it is only me davidstamford@yahoo.co.uk who has access to the blog. However I would expect us to have several editors who will be able to post so that events and activities can be publicised in this way. If you are interested please contact me.
