First Post on the RYYC Blog

In response to the members survey which suggested we send regular updates to our members. I am looking into different ways to present the information.
  1. Monthly Newsletter.  This would be written in  sections by the contributors. Cut and pasted into a Newsletter template then published as a pdf file that would be distributed to members via a mass email attachment. Flag officers and two potential contirbutors have been sent of a first draft of this type of information.
  2. Blog.  Selected contributors would be able to write articles to the blog direct. All members would have access to read the blog at anytime. The Mass mail emails could notify members of updates to the blog and provide a direct clickable link. A blog is a document to which anyone with internet access can read. They can also add comments providing feedback. Links to other material such as websites, forums,  articles photograph albulms, forums and social network sites (Facebook, Twitter and the like) can be embedded as clickable links.
If you are reading this then you have been sent a link to the new RYYC blog that has been started.
  3. Website. We already have a comprehensive website that contains information about our sailing programme, social calendar, picture gallery, Rules, Class Guide and much much more. Our Web editor has done a fantastic job so you can find the tides, weather at the click of a button. You can even pay your subs by paypal. The website has links to other sources of information including Blogs and Forums.
  4. Forum. There has been for some time a forum for RYYC members a few of us belong and occaisionally post to it. It does rely on members using it and that has not really been the case so far. It will still exist but if we move into the BLOG we may find its use will diminish further. Any forum member can publish whatever they like on the forum.
  5. Social Networking. FACEBOOK. The club has both a group and an individual presence on FACEBOOK While they are not administered by the RYYC the general committe is aware of them and know who organises each (that is if there is any organisation on facebook) Any one can request to be friends with an individual or join a group. The owner(not the RYYC) decides who is a friend.
